Riding Off into the Sunset

October 23, 2012

I've been a member here for almost two years, and as such I have seen many lively discussions and debates here. I have even played party to some. I've also had the genuine pleasure of meeting some of you. I have also run into many people who would love nothing more than to hurt someone else.

Now the time has come for me to distance myself from this crucible, to saddle up and ride off into the sunset. After the Nov. 6 elections, I will no longer be making regular appearances on this website.

Now, now, I didn't say I would leave forever. But I will for the sake of my sanity and mental health limit my visits here, as much as possible. It has been a fun ride, but I have more important things to do in my life than to waste time in pointless arguments with the shady characters that roam freely here. Oh yes, and I do reserve the right to change my mind, if I so choose.

To all of you who treated me with respect, God bless you. To those who had a direct impact on my life and set me in the right direction, I thank you.

To those who chose to make an enemy of me, I hope that at some point in time you can come to forgive me. But I hold no regrets.

Now that this monkey is off of my back, I hope all of you have a good rest of your evening.

Draft language of so-called curfew ordinance

Full text of the Use of Public Right-of-Ways ordinance draft is below. Highlight: Would set hours of operation of each Athens-Clarke County "building campus" -- e.g. City Hall, the courthouse and Dougherty Street government building -- at 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Park hours would either be set by the Athens-Clarke County manager or the Mayor and Commission. The ordinance has been derided by members of Occupy Athens and others as seeking to enforce a curfew on public property, thus damaging their First Amendment right to peacably assemble for long-term protests. read more
