Is the proposed river district feasible?

August 11, 2011

The embattled Economic Development Fund is discussing a plan to invest in a $25 million bond to develop a river district east of downtown Athens. Should the endeavor come to fruition, there is a projected $125 million in private investment and $4 million in annual tax revenue.

Many comments on the article linked above are opposed to the measures being taken by the EDF. In the case of the "Blue Heron" project, is the discretionary development authority given to this government committee the sign of economic liberalization (i.e. spending money that will pave the way for future return), or just an unchecked waste of taxpayer money?
