Pet of the Week

MEET OLIVER!: Oliver is an adorable teddybear-looking dog and he can be a perfect teddybear too, with the right owners. He's a happy and loving boy, but he also has a dominant temperament, so he needs humans with enough canine experience and spinal fortitude to show Oliver that he isn't the boss in the family.

If you can never say 'no' to your dog (or your kid!) and mean it, Oliver isnt the dog for you. Oliver's foster family has taken him to obedience classes where they've learned how to be benevolent but firm leaders and they say that Oliver has turned into a prince under this regimen. Now that he knows he doesn't rule the roost, he is a delight to live with. He isn't perfect, but his errors are all on the side of love and enthusiasm.

He's taken nicely to his crate and trots right in, settles down immediately and sleeps through the night without a peep. He'll happily wake up at the crack of dawn or sleep away the morning, whichever you prefer.

He heels beautifully on the leash (something his foster family thought was impossible before obedience class!) and is learning to be a jogging partner. He's learning to control his enthusiastic greetings, and understands that humans prefer their hellos with all four paws on the floor.

Oliver is an affectionate and curious boy and will put his head in his foster mom's lap when she's reading or typing, just to see what's up. If he gets antsy in the evening a rawhide or even an old plastic bottle will keep him constructively occupied for a long time. Oliver's most entertaining quirk is his occasional ferocious wrestling matches with his own tail. Sometimes he wins, sometimes the tail does. Oliver isn't the dog for everyone, but he will be the perfect dog for that special some one.
