In reply to: Charges imminent in Athens hit-and-run that critically injured pedestrian »

February 19, 2013

As the father of the girl who was struck on Milledge on January 11 and is still in the process of recovery and possible healing, I would ask all of you to not speculate on what did or did not happen because as we have learned, it does nothing to help this girl's family. Spend your energy praying for them or finding some way to support them while she is being treated. Take the family a meal at the hospital, get them a gift cerificiate for food someplace, or something else constructive.

Just save the comments and speculation. Let the police and DA do their job correctly so that justice can be done, whatever it may be.

    No cartoons on racism

As you might imagine, the vast majority of the editorial cartoons available these days for publication through the syndicate which supplies cartoons to the Athens Banner-Herald/OnlineAthens are addressing the situation in Ferguson, Mo., where the fatal shooting of a black teen by a white police officer has touched off a number of demonstrations -- some peaceful, but many not at all peaceful, with tear gas fired by police officers and gunshots fired by some protester. read more
