In reply to: 12-year-old Athens boy threatens to kill mother over bread »

Yup. If you never teach your child how to act, which behavior is inapropriate, immoral, or just flat out illegal, how are they to learn?

Now we got kids flipping the bird and telling judges "F you", among other bad behavior. Story here: http://www.nbcnews.com/id/50716431 That kid got 30 days for contempt (can we hire this judge for a month to clean up Athens?).

Parents. Teach your child what respectable behavior is. Both you and they will fare much better in society and they'll thank you for the education you gave them, and maybe they'll understand that you loved them when you diciplined them.

Draft language of so-called curfew ordinance

Full text of the Use of Public Right-of-Ways ordinance draft is below. Highlight: Would set hours of operation of each Athens-Clarke County "building campus" -- e.g. City Hall, the courthouse and Dougherty Street government building -- at 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Park hours would either be set by the Athens-Clarke County manager or the Mayor and Commission. The ordinance has been derided by members of Occupy Athens and others as seeking to enforce a curfew on public property, thus damaging their First Amendment right to peacably assemble for long-term protests. read more
