@LibertariansCreed: ya know... just my thoughts here... I've stopped by here intermittently to get a break from everything more worthwhile, because it's a sort of social experiment. What I've come to realize is that the anonymity of message boards almost creates an alternate reality for the users. This is neither good nor bad. I'm not passing judgment on that.

But what's confusing is that, to me, the screen name could be anyone, or no one at all - or all the same person with A LOT of free time and few extra fingers. It's hard to view the screen names as people. However, the people using the screen names personalize the attacks while simultaneously assuming the mantle of the other "self." The online, screen-named "self."

So I've watched these arguments escalate, engaged in some of the more predictable characters to see if I could garner desired responses from my pokes and prods... and I still don't get it!

Most of all though, nothing here is that serious, and I think it's pretty sad that anyone would be so offended by all this triviality that they would stoop to actually trying to injure the real person behind a given screen name. I believe that would be the height of cowardice.

This forum provides some humor in between the monotony, and every now and then there are some insightful posts and comments. Just don't let this be any more than what it is: bizarro facebook.

Rep. Regina Quick pulls no punches on Chamber scorecard

Rep. Regina Quick, R-Athens, was one of two local delegates to score less than an "A+" in the Chamber of Commerce's annual legislative score card. She and I played phone tag Monday when I was reporting the story and I wasn't able to get her comments in a timely fashion. Instead, she sent over this statement Wednesday morning and she did not mince her words. (Links and italicized portions are my own; otherwise, it's as she wrote it.) Dear Friends: read more

UPDATED: Draft language of so-called curfew ordinance

The committee opted Tuesday night to put off deciding on the ordinance until, at the earliest, its next meeting. Of note: The Athens-Clarke County attorney highlighted that the proposed times are, in essence, placeholders for the commission to change or keep as it pleases.   Full text of the Use of Public Right-of-Ways ordinance draft is below. read more
