In reply to: Huckaby says he won't whine about budget cuts »

December 11, 2012

This is supposed to be a spokesperson for the university ? What a jerk! Do you think the head of DOT is complaining about cuts in his budget ? There was once a vision that higher education was good for the state. We looked to Virginia and North Carolina as examples of what an educated workforce can do for an economy.

This vision has changed in Georgia. Quality is no longer important, just the product. Turn out the graduates as fast as possible. It make no difference what they know (or don't know). Do this as cheaply as possible. Somehow this is good ?

Vacant classrooms are a function of the reduction in the number of teachers. Many have left GA for better situations. When they leave, they are not replaced. Teachers that remain are teaching more than ever.

Huckaby was appointed following the model of Adams to make sure there were no complaints as the University of Georgia is allowed to wither away. Sopunds like the politicians found their boy !

    Blog: Watching movies by myself

Summary:  I'm not saying it's lonely to be a movie critic, but we often find ourselves seated alone in an empty theatre when we're watching new stuff. I know people who say they won't go see anything unless they have at least one other person to go with, but I've always enjoyed having the place to myself. No cartoons on racism

As you might imagine, the vast majority of the editorial cartoons available these days for publication through the syndicate which supplies cartoons to the Athens Banner-Herald/OnlineAthens are addressing the situation in Ferguson, Mo., where the fatal shooting of a black teen by a white police officer has touched off a number of demonstrations -- some peaceful, but many not at all peaceful, with tear gas fired by police officers and gunshots fired by some protester. read more
