In reply to: Pot votes in 2 states challenge US drug war »

November 8, 2012

Maybe if pot were legalized in all 50 states and grown in the U.S., the Mexicans would not have to worry about pot going over the border. Maybe the cartels would find less demand for their product. Maybe the drug trafficer would go the way of the bootlegger. Maybe it could actually be a profitable crop. Maybe this crop could be a source of tax revenue. Maybe our law enforcement could spend time and resources on more important issues. Maybe we could free up some jail space for more serious criminals. Maybe our government should quit trying to control our lives. Maybe Monte Python will make a sudden resurgence. Maybe stocks of Frito Lay would go through the roof.

Instead, she sent over this statement Wednesday morning and she did not mince her words. (Links and italicized portions are my own; otherwise, it's as she wrote it.) Dear Friends: read more

UPDATED: Draft language of so-called curfew ordinance

The committee opted Tuesday night to put off deciding on the ordinance until, at the earliest, its next meeting. Of note: The Athens-Clarke County attorney highlighted that the proposed times are, in essence, placeholders for the commission to change or keep as it pleases.   Full text of the Use of Public Right-of-Ways ordinance draft is below. read more
