WHAT IS ATHENS TALKS?
ATHENS TALKS goes beyond the ‘news’ to get to the heart of what has people talking. From the buzz around town, to political outrage, to celebrity scandal, to what was on TV last night, we’re discussing the hottest, most provocative stories and issues of the day.
DO EDITORS DETERMINE WHICH STORIES ARE SHOWN?
People like you drive ATHENS TALKS. Starting a discussion will allow others to comment, offer their expertise, or sound off on a variety of topics. In return, members are able to read over and comment on posts by fellow ‘talkers’. While we ask that you be sensitive to the community, there aren’t too many topics we’d consider off limits. If it’s something that you want to have a thoughtful discussion on, we invite you to start the conversation.
In addition to our forums, ATHENS TALKS director, Andrea Griffith, is always out and about, listening to the banter and using TV, internet and other sources to provide the latest and most interesting headlines. Content is updated throughout the day, so whether it’s a news story, a viral video, or a rumor that needs to be addressed, you’ll find it at ATHENS TALKS.

WHAT ARE THE COMMUNITY GUIDELINES?
ATHENS TALKS invites anyone who wants to be part of our community to join and contribute. We understand that when people from various backgrounds and mindsets get together there will be a myriad of views on different topics. That diversity and interaction is what we find so exciting and it’s encouraged. However, just like we would in the ‘real’ world, we insist that everyone be respectful. In the ATHENS TALKS community, healthy debate is good. Helpful advice is welcome. Speaking your mind is allowed. Just leave out the personal attacks. Don’t use profanity, ethnic or racial slurs, or take jabs at anyone’s sexual orientation or religion. We do not edit content posted in our communities but for those who can't be nice, we reserve the right to remove your material and/or ban those who violate or visitor’s terms. It’s as simple as that.

ARE COMMENTS MODERATED?
While we do moderate ATHENS TALKS, we trust that our members will make every effort to follow our guidelines. All of us are grownups and entitled to our own political or ideological views. To censor those would be against everything that ATHENS TALKS is based on. However, if we feel someone crosses the line and launches an attack against another member or if an off color comment is posted, it will be pulled, no questions asked. Who has that authority? The ATHENS TALKS staff, that’s who and all decisions are final. So play nice.
I SEE A COMMENT THAT I FIND OFFENSIVE. WHAT CAN I DO?
Any comments considered offensive can be flagged by community members. These flags alert our staff to the possibility of abuse and we will launch an investigation.
I POSTED A COMMENT BUT I CAN’T SEE IT. WHY?

Summary: Fun facts: The first-ever Oscar ceremony, held in 1929, ran a brisk 15 minutes. By contrast, the longest was in 2002, clocking in at a monstrous 4 hours and change.
