Need more ways to save money? Strategical tips to use at dollar stores

January 18, 2012

The recession still shrinking your budget?

Well dollar stores are a great way to save money and because of the recession they have surged in sales.

If you were weary to shop at dollar stores before because they did not have a lot of the name brand items you so desperately needed, check back. Dollar stores now carry many brand names.

Yahoo! Financial Contributor Sophie Walton lays out some more helpful tips for the next time you shop at the dollar store to make sure you get the ultimate savings.

1. Check expiration dates to make sure you're not buying something that is just about to go bad.

2. Even though the dollar store appears to be the cheapest option, keep an eye on products that you buy regularly at other stores to make sure you're not overpaying at the dollar store.

3. Generic cleaners are not always the best purchase. More and more dollar stores are carrying name brand cleaning products that offer you more savings.

4. Don't forget to use your coupons! Dollar stores accept coupons just like big name stores.

5. Check to see if the dollar store is now carrying your favorite makeup and health products. Just like name brand cleaners, they have begun to carry name brand health and beauty items.

6. Dollar stores can offer big savings on necessary items such as socks, kids clothing, and pet toys.
