Join the Waffle House club

January 27, 2012

I grew up in Macon, Georgia and for anyone who has ever been to Macon, you know there isn't much to do there. During my senior in high schooi, my friends and I started our own Waffle House club.

There were about 5-10 people who would go to the Waffle House together and eat, have some fun, and just hang out.  The staff was always very cool and would give us the cooks' hats so that we could crown the Waffle House King and Queens.  It was quite an honor to have those titles.

It sounds silly now but when you are 18 and living in a town with nothing going on, having a place to go and somewhere to belong is important.

Waffle House opened a restaurant in downtown Athens yesterday and I paid a visit today and had a great time remembering that time in my life.

Check out @Andrew Shearer:'s video from his visit to the new Waffle House yesterday:

Did anyone else have a similar experience at a Waffle House growing up?

What do you remember about Waffle House?

I've got an idea. Let's start our own Waffle House club here online by playing our favorite Waffle House songs.

This is one of my favrorites I played off the jukebox to irritate the waitresses. Enjoy!
