Is Intel changing cable?

Apple, Google and Microsoft have been frontrunners in the digital world for several years. Even though these companies have had great successes, they have been unable to conquer one major digital platform: television. 

According to Kelly Clay at Forbes, Intel plans on getting in on the television game by producing their own set-top box which will provide channels through an internet connection. Intel's set-top box will supposedly allow users to subscribe to individual channels, rather than purchase bundles through a provider.


Jay Yarow at Business Insider talks about how this new model might not catch on because the content producers have been very successful from the current cable model. 

With cable being so expensive, many people are choosing alternative services to watch TV, such as Netflix or Hulu. Is it time to switch to a new model?
