If Guns Didn't Help America Win It's Independence

What did?

Surely you don't win your independence by beating your enemies to death with shovels and pitchforks, or with hands and feet? What if we had not been armed during World War II? We might all be speaking German at this point in time, had we assumed that guns do not ensure a chance at success in wartime.

To the Liberal Democrats here, please explain (if any) what we could have done to win against the British, and Nazis, that is if guns were not the key to our victory.
