How healthy is 'Celebrity Rehab'?

February 18, 2013

The former country singer Mindy McCready died Sunday from an apparent suicide in her home in Arkansas.

Online Athens reports that she had been struggling with substance abuse and problems with the custody of her children for the past couple years.

An article from Billboard discusses Dr. Drew Pinksy's view on the matter. Pinksy treated McCready on VH1's show "Celebrity Rehab," which he hosts.

Of the six seasons and 41 celebrities on the show, McCready is the fifth former cast member who has passed away. Others include Rodney King, Mike Starr from Alice in Chains, actor Jeff Conaway and Joey Kovar from "The Real World."

Do you think "Celebrity Rehab" is a good idea for the recovery of these people in need?

Links to Banner-Herald's award-winning sports stories

The Athens Banner-Herald sports staff combined to win 11 individual awards on Sunday at the Georgia Sports Writers Association's annual meeting in Marietta. You can get a few more details on that in this story ? "Banner-Herald sports staff wins 11 awards" ? and I thought I'd provide some links to the winning stories for the curious. The awards were for the sports staff's work in 2012. read more

Going deep on Georgia's depth chart (and Harvey-Clemons' suspension impact)

It?s hard to make too much out of a depth chart put out just under three months before the season opener, but it?s the dog days of June so here are the takeaways I see from Georgia?s latest official pecking order outlined below:--John Theus remains outside the first five on the offensive line. Continued motivation for the summer workouts? Maybe. The rising sophomore is behind Xzavier Ward at right tackle. read more
