Gun Control through Liability Insurance: You Need at least $1 Million to Own a Gun

February 21, 2013

This is in NY. Could it one day occur on a national level?

"A bill was introduced in the State Assembly by Felix Ortiz (D-Brooklyn) that would require citizens of New York to acquire liability insurance as a condition to gun ownership. Bill S2353 will require all gun owners in NY to obtain and “continuously maintain” insurance coverage of at least $1 million, or they will suffer “immediate revocation of such owner’s registration, license and any other privilege to own” a firearm."

Draft language of so-called curfew ordinance

Full text of the Use of Public Right-of-Ways ordinance draft is below. Highlight: Would set hours of operation of each Athens-Clarke County "building campus" -- e.g. City Hall, the courthouse and Dougherty Street government building -- at 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Park hours would either be set by the Athens-Clarke County manager or the Mayor and Commission. The ordinance has been derided by members of Occupy Athens and others as seeking to enforce a curfew on public property, thus damaging their First Amendment right to peacably assemble for long-term protests. read more
