Guitars, Hoedowns & Hats

April 18, 2011

GIVING BACK: If you live in Athens, you know there's never a shortage of fun things to do. I've been trying to cut down my social schedule lately and spend some time on my yard, but the past few days have been so entertaining, I thought I'd share...

Thursday night, I attended a guitar art and memorabilia auction to benefit Nuci's Space. It was held at Hotel Indigo's Rialto Room and was a rockin' good time. Kyshona Armstrong performed and she's one of my favorite, favorite, favorite local entertainers.

A fabulous time for a great cause...

Saturday night was Boybutante 2011. The sold-out event benefits AIDS organizations in the area and this year, the theme was a country hoedown. I know I look sort of look like lil'-bo-peep meets hillbilly rock, but whaddya gonna do? Pictured with me is realtor and community "do-gooder" Leah Leggett. The drag show was awesome and none of us made it out of the 40 Watt until the wee hours. I even saw one of our very own Athens Talkers there... Smile

Sunday morning, with a cup-o-coffee big enough to swim in, I dabbed on the concealer, plopped a hat on my head and made my way over to the Georgia Center. The Jeannette Rankin Foundation is an organization close to my heart and the annual High Hat Party was a perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Candice Courcey (pictured, left), who owns Urban Sanctuary, was in attendance, along with Gwen O'Looney, Nancy Denson, Kelly Girtz, Mike Hamby, Jared Bailey and a ton of other well-known community figures.

Finally, to Winterville and Cap Man's Art and Music Festival. I bought two art pieces by Heidi Hensley and admired the work of Kenneth Kase, Cap Man and even saw the Phickles Pickles gal (pictured, left) Angie Tillman! Tillman is with Plexus Web Design owner (and friend of mine, which is why she shows up in a lot of pictures) Stephanie Sharp.

What was your weekend like? Were you out-and-about or just doin' some relaxing?
