Give her a diamond for Christmas?

November 4, 2012

"Second only to Christmas, Valentine's Day is the holiday when diamonds are most often given as the ultimate token of love. Central to the diamond's role as a romantic symbol is the belief that diamonds are one of the rarest, most precious gifts for a loved one. But it's only a myth--diamonds are found in plentiful supply. FRONTLINE examines how the great myth about the scarcity of diamonds and their inflated value was created and maintained over the decades by the diamond cartel. This report chronicles how one family, the Oppenheimers of South Africa, gained control of the supply, marketing, and pricing of the world's diamonds. "--PBS

De Beers tells us that a diamond is an expensive but necessary token of affection, in essence that's how you show your love. And conversely, a woman who doesn't have a diamond ring is somehow “less loved”. The bigger and more expensive the diamond, the more a woman should feel cherished. It’s a lie that started less than a 100 years ago. So I know that some of y'all will call me names, and call me a "conspiracy theorist", and that's fine. But just think about the slaves in the mines, and they are slaves, and how we are being lied to, and if we are told lies about one thing, like the diamond industry, what else are we being lied to about?

Merry Christmas!

Dr. Paul Craig Roberts writes: "...that “conspiracy theory” is
a term applied to any fact, analysis, or truth that is politically, ideologically, or emotionally unacceptable...A "conspiracy theory" no
longer means an event explained by a conspiracy. Instead, it now means any explanation, or even a fact, that is out of step with the
government's explanation and that of its media pimps."

    Blog: Watching movies by myself

Summary:  I'm not saying it's lonely to be a movie critic, but we often find ourselves seated alone in an empty theatre when we're watching new stuff. I know people who say they won't go see anything unless they have at least one other person to go with, but I've always enjoyed having the place to myself. No cartoons on racism

As you might imagine, the vast majority of the editorial cartoons available these days for publication through the syndicate which supplies cartoons to the Athens Banner-Herald/OnlineAthens are addressing the situation in Ferguson, Mo., where the fatal shooting of a black teen by a white police officer has touched off a number of demonstrations -- some peaceful, but many not at all peaceful, with tear gas fired by police officers and gunshots fired by some protester. read more
