Girl Scout Cookies are back!

February 20, 2012

This past weekend, as I headed to a retreat at Camp Twin Lakes, I saw something that I couldn't ignore.  Three girl scouts standing in front of Walgreens holding boxes of what I could only assume were chocolate-y coconut perfection.

I don't know if it was my nostaligia for my Girl Scout days, or my blatant disregard for the proximity of Spring Break, but I had to make a U-turn and invest in the cause.

Girl Scout cookie season has never failed to pull me out of the Winter Blues.  And at $3.50 a box, it's too easy to write off your purchases as charitable and buy two of every kind.

With a new selling season comes a new cookie that honors the Girl Scout's Savannah heritage.  Savannah Smiles are bite-sized lemon wedge cookies are dusted with powdered sugar and baked with love, no doubt. I can say from experience that they are a fantastic addition to the Girl Scout line-up and at five cookies for 140 calories, you won't feel AS guilty for eating the entire box.

The Girl Scout Cookie Program prides itself on providing girls with an opportunity to learn goal-setting, financial, and people skills.  All of the proceeds remain in the area that the cookies are sold and benefit the troops directly.

My personal favorites are Samoas, Tagalongs, and the ever-classic Shortbreads.

Did you ever sell Girl Scout Cookies? What are you favorite flavors? Where can you find them in Athens?
