Gasoline prices to hit $5 a gallon even if no war with Syria or Iran? What will the prices be if there is war?
February 7, 2012
Don McAlvany writes: "The new year has greeted Americans with the highest January gas prices ever, and some analysts say prices could get close to $5 a gallon in some areas during the warm-weather driving season."
"Some even suggest that the price of oil will be well over $200/barrel and gasoline would be $5.00/gallon by this summer no matter what."--Seeking Alpha Website
"That price [$4.15 per gallon] is discounting the possibility of military action against Iran. If there is action with Iran, prices can spike much higher—.25 cents to .75 cents higher per gallon. Even if it's not the U.S. going to war with Iran, it could be Israel attacking them."--by Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst at GasBuddy.com
The Seeking Alpha guys advise that war or nuclear war, or no war, that Exxon Mobil stock is the one to buy.
"Exxon Mobil is the biggest and if you do not have shares of a big oil company in your portfolio, XOM would be the one I would buy. XOM should profit the most of any big oil company, and its shares should reflect the increased revenue and enormous profits it stand to make. We often talk about reducing risks within our portfolio to smooth out the bumps in the road. Can you think of any other hedge that might reduce our risk of loss of portfolio value for the ultimate catastrophe? I am not suggesting that we all go out and build fallout shelters or stock up on canned food and clean water supplies just yet, but I am giving my opinion on a stock to own that we MIGHT be able to profit with. If the worst were ever to occur, we would have much more to contend with than our portfolios anyway."
One of Israel’s leading military historians, Martin van Creveld, was interviewed by Playboy magazine in June 2007:
Playboy: Can the World live with a nuclear Iran?
Van Creveld: "The U.S. has lived with a nuclear Soviet Union and a nuclear China, so why not a nuclear Iran? I’ve researched how the U.S. opposed nuclear proliferation in the past, and each time a country was about to proliferate, the U.S. expressed its opposition in terms of why this other country was very dangerous and didn’t deserve to have nuclear weapons. Americans believe they’re the only people who deserve to have nuclear weapons, because they are good and democratic and they like Mother and apple pie and the flag. But Americans are the only ones who have used them. … We are in no danger at all of having an Iranian nuclear weapon dropped on us. We cannot say so too openly, however, because we have a history of using any threat in order to get weapons … thanks to the Iranian threat, we are getting weapons from the U.S. and Germany.”
State Rep. Chuck Williams, R-Watkinsville, is holding two fundraisers next week, indicating that he expects to have opposition either in July or November.
