Advice for those considering joining the military by Stan Goff

Stan Goff says: "I know it's a tough economic choice to make. I know school is too expensive. You have to continue to remember what it is they're doing. The military does not exist to give you money for school. The military exists to assert the political will of the US government by force of arms--you are sent to be a bully. In the real world you have to live with the consequences of your decisions the rest of your life. I did spend a lot of time being an instrument of transnational corporations. I had to do a lot of things that I wish I didn't have in my head right now."

Should Anyone Join the Military?
http://www.lewrockwell.com/vance/vance124.html

"1. Joining the military may cost you your limbs, your mind, or even your life.

2. Joining the military may have an adverse effect on your family.

3. Joining the military does not mean that you will be defending the country.

4. Joining the military means that you will be helping to carry out an evil, reckless, and interventionist U.S. foreign policy.

5. Joining the military means that you will be expected to unconditionally follow orders.

6. Joining the military means that you will be pressured to make a god out of the military.

7. Joining the military means that you may be put into a position where you will have to kill or be killed."--by Laurence M. Vance

    Blog: Watching movies by myself

Summary:  I'm not saying it's lonely to be a movie critic, but we often find ourselves seated alone in an empty theatre when we're watching new stuff. I know people who say they won't go see anything unless they have at least one other person to go with, but I've always enjoyed having the place to myself. No cartoons on racism

As you might imagine, the vast majority of the editorial cartoons available these days for publication through the syndicate which supplies cartoons to the Athens Banner-Herald/OnlineAthens are addressing the situation in Ferguson, Mo., where the fatal shooting of a black teen by a white police officer has touched off a number of demonstrations -- some peaceful, but many not at all peaceful, with tear gas fired by police officers and gunshots fired by some protester. read more
