Don't let the bedbugs bite...

February 1, 2012

As a kid, my Dad always had a certain way to say good night to us before bed:  "Good night and don't let the bedbugs bite."

I always thought it was funny that my Dad would make up this bug that lives in our beds.

Little did I know until recently that bedbugs are real and a terrible problem.

The Banner-Herald reported about the resurgence of bedbugs in hotels back in 2010.

Bedbugs are usually associated with low budget motels but this is not always true. Just last week, The New York Times reported that the Ritz Carlton has a problem with bedbugs at their Central Park hotel.

If we can't escape these critters even in nice hotels, what can we do?

One way to combat the problem is not to go to hotels that are known for having a problem with bedbugs.

A website has been started that names the hotels with reported bedbug problems. You can check to see if your favorite hotels are in the registry here: http://bedbugregistry.com/search/

If you find your favorite hotel in this registry, would you stop staying there?

Is it fair to brand hotels as unclean if bedbugs are found?

Have you had any problems with bedbugs in your home?

If so, what have you done to get rid of these pests?
