Do 'shock jocks' go too far?

On April 1, 1996, I remember driving to work in Atlanta and listening to Star 94 on the radio and to the morning show with Steve and Vickie.

Vickie reported during the news segment that Greece had pulled out of the Summer Olympics, which was just a few months away and to be held in Atlanta.

Radio listeners called in frantic and upset about the economic impact on the city and local business.

Bank customers were coming in and out of the bank frantic about the news they heard on Star 94.  

Surprise, Steve and Vickie announced later in the day that this was an April Fool's joke on their listeners and they had a good laugh.  One problem, listeners didn't think it was funny.

Steve and Vickie ended up getting suspended for their prank.

As much as shock jocks like to pull pranks on others, there is always a victim.  If you're the victim, you don't think it's all that funny.

After the most recent "shock jock" prank failed in Sydney and a woman killed herself, is it time to rexamine the role of "shock jocks"? 

Do you listen to disc jockeys?  If so, which ones are your favorites?

Do you enjoy listening to pranks calls?  

Do you think you would enjoy them as much if you were the victim?
