Dear Islam

November 27, 2012

Dear Islam, (especially those of you in Egypt)

You did well in removing Mubarak, but now you find yourself back in Tahrir square protesting this power grab by your once dearly beloved (and democratically elected) leader, Mohamed Morsi. You expect the western world to trust you--- but however, you have so gracefully displayed a lack of ability to run or elect a stable form of government. How can we trust you when you willfully empower an autocracy? Don't get me wrong, but maybe this time you'll get it right! Although, please don't come crying to us. We warned you.

Signed, the Western Hemisphere

She and I played phone tag Monday when I was reporting the story and I wasn't able to get her comments in a timely fashion. Instead, she sent over this statement Wednesday morning and she did not mince her words. (Links and italicized portions are my own; otherwise, it's as she wrote it.) Dear Friends: read more
