Cyber Monday: DEALS DEALS DEALS!!!

November 26, 2012

First, it was Black Friday. Now, it's Cyber Monday's turn.

Yes folks. The deals are still here. In case you didn't want to go to your local mall to celebrate Black Friday and fight over that $500, 45" 1080p Class LED flat screen television or those Doorbuster deals, you can still take advantage of those same deals in the quiet vicinity of your home on your computer.

Most stores are still offering great sales in leau of Cyber Monday. Some stores who are still offering deals on certain items online today are Kohl's, Sear's, Macy's, and, of course, Walmart. Click here to see some of the sales online from these stores and more.

Now when shopping online, there are a few important tips you might want to take advantage of:

1. ALWAYS LOOK FOR ONLINE COUPONS!!! - Online coupons offer anything from 20% off your purchase or even free shipping. You can find online coupons easily on Google or your favorite search engine.

2. Shop around. - Those $15 dollar jeans on one site could easily be $10 on another. Keep your options open.

3. Be secure. - Make sure you are shopping on a secure site (The first thing you want to do is look at the URL and make sure it says "HTTPS" at the beginning). Don't share personal information if it's not needed. Check your bank accounts to make sure you are being charged the right amounts for what you payed for. Lastly, look out for those check boxes that usually say something like: "Check this if you want daily subscriptions from this site." I don't know about you, but I hate when my e-mail is filled with online newsletters and ads that I receive everyday from a website I've only bought something from once.

What are your tips and tricks for online shopping if you do shop online?

Would you rather shop online or in person at the store?

Did you go shopping on Black Friday? If so, share your experience or any past experiences you've had.

Rep. Regina Quick pulls no punches on Chamber scorecard

Rep. Regina Quick, R-Athens, was one of two local delegates to score less than an "A+" in the Chamber of Commerce's annual legislative score card. She and I played phone tag Monday when I was reporting the story and I wasn't able to get her comments in a timely fashion. Instead, she sent over this statement Wednesday morning and she did not mince her words. (Links and italicized portions are my own; otherwise, it's as she wrote it.) Dear Friends: read more

UPDATED: Draft language of so-called curfew ordinance

The committee opted Tuesday night to put off deciding on the ordinance until, at the earliest, its next meeting. Of note: The Athens-Clarke County attorney highlighted that the proposed times are, in essence, placeholders for the commission to change or keep as it pleases.   Full text of the Use of Public Right-of-Ways ordinance draft is below. read more
