CNN falling behind other news networks

May 31, 2012

CNN's average viewership numbers for May are in and they show a bleak outlook for the network.

Coming in strong is Fox News with 1,692,000 total viewers, while MSNBC drew an average of 674,000.

CNN, lowest of the three, marked May with an average total of 389,000 viewers. This indicates their lowest number of viewers in 20 years.

While I do watch CNN on occasion for the familiar faces I know and love (Anderson Cooper, Wolf Blitzer,) I have to admit I'm not a regular viewer.

It seems there are so many different outlets to choose from when it comes to getting national news. What CNN exceled at, and what set them apart, was their coverage of international news.

The international angle of CNN has been let loose and in my opinion, that is what has led to its downfall.

Do you watch CNN?

What do you think should be done to attract more viewers?

What news network do you watch the most and why?

Draft language of so-called curfew ordinance

Full text of the Use of Public Right-of-Ways ordinance draft is below. Highlight: Would set hours of operation of each Athens-Clarke County "building campus" -- e.g. City Hall, the courthouse and Dougherty Street government building -- at 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Park hours would either be set by the Athens-Clarke County manager or the Mayor and Commission. The ordinance has been derided by members of Occupy Athens and others as seeking to enforce a curfew on public property, thus damaging their First Amendment right to peacably assemble for long-term protests. read more
