It's hard to beat them.  You can fulfill your need for cake without having to eat an entire cake. I'm talking about cupcakes.

Cupcakes rank on the top of my favorite desserts list. 

I have been visiting shops all over town trying to find the best cupcakes in Athens.

I am finally ready to report back.

Here are my three favorite cupcakes in Athens:

Gigi's Cupcakes: If you like icing/frosting, this should be your choice. Gigi's piles their icing high and it's like eating a block of sugar.  They post their menu everyday on their website, http://www.gigiscupcakesusa.com/athensgeorgia.  I can also walk to their shop from the Banner-Herald building.  I really need the excercise after eating all that icing.

Bee's Knees Bakery & Gifts: Bee's Knees cupcakes remind me a lot of Gigi's because of all the icing.  Bee's seems to be more creative with its selection and is about the same price as Gigi's. You can check out their website at http://www.beeskneesbakeryandgifts.com.

Viva! Argentine Cuisine: Yes, an Argentinian restaurant has great cupcakes. I am pretty sure these cupcakes are my favorites. Viva's cupcakes are less expensive, have less icing and have a filling which helps keep the cake moist.  The problem with cupcakes is the cake can become dry very quickly. That is not a problem for these cupcakes. Check out their Facebook page.
