Americans to Vote for White Guy?!

May 15, 2012

We are beginning to see more national surveys now, including this week’s New York Times/CBS News poll, which show Mitt Romney with a slight lead over President Obama in the general election matchup.

Let's hope not! Imagine an electorate that votes, not on the issues, but on the skin color of a candidate! Merde alors!

It reminds, me, really, of the Naked Gun movie when Det. Dreben (Leslie Neilson) tells O.J. (the murderer) in regards to boxing: "Never bet on the white guy!"

Let's hope such shallow though-processes and reasoning adopted from an epic comedy haven't now found themselves into American voting patterns!

Maybe white boys are not as bad as we thought, though. Let's hope not! If they elect Romney "White House" might garner an entire new meaning!

Somehow, I can hear the Rev. Wright rolling thunder again: "G-D America! G-D America! Done put them white boys back at the front of the bus!!"

(With apologies to the O12 team!)

Draft language of so-called curfew ordinance

Full text of the Use of Public Right-of-Ways ordinance draft is below. Highlight: Would set hours of operation of each Athens-Clarke County "building campus" -- e.g. City Hall, the courthouse and Dougherty Street government building -- at 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Park hours would either be set by the Athens-Clarke County manager or the Mayor and Commission. The ordinance has been derided by members of Occupy Athens and others as seeking to enforce a curfew on public property, thus damaging their First Amendment right to peacably assemble for long-term protests. read more
